Roots of Resilience

Samantha Torres’ story begins with the courageous journey of her parents, who fled the political turmoil and economic instability of Chile in the late 1970s. They arrived in Canada seeking safety, stability, and a brighter future. Settling in a modest neighborhood, her parents worked tirelessly to provide for their family while instilling in Samantha the values of hard work, empathy, and perseverance.

Through her parents’ sacrifices, Samantha learned that resilience isn’t just about enduring hardship—it’s about building a life and creating opportunities, even when the odds are stacked against you. Their journey shaped her sense of justice and commitment to standing up for others, lessons that would guide her throughout her life.

A Career Rooted in Education

Before stepping into politics, Samantha spent over a decade as a high school teacher, specializing in history and social studies. In the classroom, she wasn’t just a teacher—she was a mentor, advocate, and role model for her students.

Samantha worked to empower young people, particularly those facing systemic barriers, by fostering critical thinking and encouraging them to engage with their communities. She saw firsthand how inequality impacts families and how access to education can transform lives. This experience deepened her commitment to fighting for a fair and inclusive society.

From Teacher to Politician

As a mother of two and a wife, Samantha has always balanced her professional life with her family’s needs. Raising children in today’s world has given her a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by working families—from accessing affordable childcare to securing a future for the next generation.

Recently, Samantha made the tough decision to leave teaching and dedicate herself full-time to politics. “I loved teaching, but I realized that if I wanted to make a real difference in the lives of my students and their families, I had to step up and fight for change at a higher level.”

Now, she’s bringing the same passion and dedication that she had in the classroom to her political career. Samantha is focused on building a better future for working families, addressing systemic inequities, and creating opportunities for everyone.

Family Values at the Core

At the heart of everything Samantha does is her family. She and her partner, Alex, are raising two energetic kids, Lucas and Emilia, in a vibrant and diverse community. Whether it’s coaching Lucas’ soccer team or volunteering at Emilia’s school fundraiser, Samantha is deeply involved in her community and firmly believes that the best way to understand people’s struggles is to stay connected to them.

Her experience as a parent, teacher, and advocate informs her every decision. “I want my kids—and every kid in Canada—to grow up in a world where they have opportunities, not obstacles. That’s the future I’m fighting for.”
